CoQ10 is the coenzyme for at least three mitochondrial enzymes that is required for Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) synthesis, making it essential for the conversion of carbohydrates into energy. It was first discovered by Frederick Cane by isolating beef heart mitochondria. CoQ10 can be produced from some microorganisms, plants and animals. The most common methods for extracting CoQ10 from different samples are liquid–liquid extraction or ultrasound
extraction.
