L-Leucine is an essential branched-chain amino acid found in foods like eggs, cheese, legumes, lean meat, or seeds, and it helps build proteins and muscles in our bodies. Scientific studies show that leucine promotes muscle growth, especially in older individuals, reduces inflammation, and stabilizes blood sugar levels. There is no official dosage, but the World Health Organization recommends that the average healthy adult takes at least 39 mg of leucine per kilogram of body weight per day. The usual taken dose is 5 grams per day. Leucine is generally regarded as safe, but taking very high doses can result in gastrointestinal troubles, low blood sugar, and temporarily elevated ammonia levels in the blood.
