About Urolithin A

Urolithin A is a metabolite produced by gut microbiota from ellagitannins, which are found in foods like pomegranates, berries, and walnuts. Since not everyone’s gut microbiota can efficiently produce it, its bioavailability varies from person to person. Key benefits of Urolithin A include stimulating mitophagy (removal of damaged mitochondria), improving mitochondrial function and gene expression , enhancing muscle strength and endurance. Due to its potential benefits for aging, muscle health, and energy metabolism, Urolithin A has gained interest in longevity research. The recommended daily dose is 500-1000 mg per day.

Efficacy Studies
  1. Liu et al. investigated the effect of urolithin A supplementation on muscle endurance and mitochondrial health in older adults in 2022. They discovered that daily supplementation of 1000 mg of urolithin A supplements for 4 months was beneficial for muscle endurance and plasma biomarkers, suggesting that urolithin A may counteract age-associated muscle decline.
  2. A 2024 systematic review by Hodzic Kuerec et al. summarized that five consistent studies showed how urolithin A supplements, taken for 1 to 4 months in 10-1000 mg doses, showed a dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effect and upregulated some mitochondrial genes, markers of autophagy, and fatty acid oxidation, as well as increased muscle strength and endurance in healthy older individuals.
