Where Does Grape Seed Extract Come From?

Grapeseed extract is made from the seeds of Vitis vinifera, the wild grape from which most wine grapes come from. Its usage dates back from Ancient Greece, with Greek philosophers praising it for its incredible healing purposes. This grape species originated from Central Asia, but is now produced in many parts of the world as a result of cultivation and escape.

The process of manufacturing grapeseed extract involves harvesting of grapes and collecting their seeds, then dried to remove moisture content. The dried seeds are crushed and its bioactive compounds are extracted. Finally, the extract is dried into powdered form which can now be used in the production of supplements.
