Kyselina hyaluronová (HA), nazývaná také hyaluronan, je široce rozšířena v pojivových, epitelových a nervových tkáních, zejména v očích, kloubech a pokožce.

Na rozdíl od kyseliny hyaluronové v kosmetice, která se nanáší na pokožku a nepronikne jejími vrstvami, se doplňky kyseliny hyaluronové vstřebávají a mohou přispět k dlouhodobým účinkům spojeným se zvýšením hladiny kyseliny hyaluronové v těle. Čehož kosmetika dosáhnout nemůže.

HA pomáhá vašim kloubům fungovat jako dobře namazaný stroj. Dělá pokožku pružnou a zmírňuje vzhled vrásek a jemných linek.   • 107 zdravých osob v Číně užívalo 37,52 mg HA po dobu 30 dnů. Randomizovaná, jednostranně zaslepená, placebem kontrolovaná studie zjistila zvýšení vlhkosti pleti a významné zvýšení pH pleti. Terashita, T. et al. (2011).
  • Randomizovaná, dvojitě zaslepená, placebem kontrolovaná studie na 42 ženách v Japonsku testovala perorální příjem 120 mg kyseliny hyaluronové denně po dobu šesti týdnů. U osob užívajících kyselinu hyaluronovou bylo pozorováno významné zvýšení vlhkosti pleti. Yoshida, T. et al (2009).
  • Kyselina hyaluronová byla podávána jako perorální doplněk v denních dávkách 240 mg hyaluronanu o molekulové hmotnosti 80 K. Test byl randomizovanou, dvojitě zaslepenou, placebem kontrolovanou studií s 22 pacienty. Výsledky zjistily zlepšení suché pokožky na obličeji a těle. Zvýšení vlhkosti pleti. Kajimoto, O. et al. (2001).
