Spermidine is found naturally in foods like wheat and soybeans. It’s an organic compound called a polyamine. 

At the cellular level, polyamines help flush out waste and recycle damaged cells using a process known as autophagy. They also play a role in cell growth, protein synthesis, regulating the inflammatory response, and maintaining intestinal function. 

As we age, the level of polyamines declines, which is associated with different health concerns.

1. A study by Madeo et al. from 2018 found that taking spermidine prolongs the human lifespan and reduces the risk of mortality. Participants, who took 1 milligram of spermidine every day for 3 months, showed improvements in cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and metabolic parameters compared to those who did not receive the supplement (Madeo et al., 2018). It should be mentioned that all authors are the scientific founders of Samsara Therapeutics, with an equity interest in The Longevity Labs.
2. Another 2018 study by Kiechl et al. found that a diet rich in spermidine is linked to increased survival in humans. Participants' diets were assessed to see who ate more spermidine, and they enrolled in it in 1990, at the age of 45-84. There were follow-ups every five years (Kiechl et al., 2018). 
3. A third 2018 study, done by Wirth et al, showed that a three-month-long spermidine supplementation moderately improved memory performance of elderly subjects. This suggests that spermidine may be beneficial for older peoples' cognitive functions (Wirth et al., 2018).
