Kyselina hyalurónová (HA), nazývaná aj hyaluronan, sa vo veľkom množstve nachádza v spojivových, epitelových a nervových tkanivách, najmä v očiach, kĺboch a pokožke.

Na rozdiel od kyseliny hyalurónovej v kozmetike, ktorá sa nanáša na pokožku a neprenikne cez jej vrstvu, sa doplnky kyseliny hyalurónovej vstrebávajú a môžu prispievať k dlhodobým účinkom spojeným so zvýšením hladiny kyseliny hyalurónovej v tele. To kozmetika dosiahnuť nedokáže.

HA pomáha vašim kĺbom fungovať ako dobre premazaný stroj. Robí vašu pokožku pružnejšou a zmierňuje vzhľad vrások a jemných línií.   • 107 zdravých účastníkov v Číne užívalo 30 dní 37,52 mg HA. Randomizovaná, jednoducho zaslepená, placebom kontrolovaná štúdia preukázala zvýšenie hydratácie pokožky a výrazné zvýšenie pH pokožky. Terashita, T. et al. (2011).
  • Randomizovaná, dvojito zaslepená, placebom kontrolovaná štúdia s 42 pacientkami v Japonsku skúmala perorálne užívanie 120 mg kyseliny hyalurónovej denne počas šiestich týždňov. U účastníčok užívajúcich kyselinu hyalurónovú sa pozorovalo výrazné zvýšenie hydratácie pokožky. Yoshida, T. et al (2009).
  • Kyselina hyalurónová sa podávala ako perorálny doplnok v dennej dávke 240 mg hyaluronanu s molekulovou hmotnosťou 80 K. Išlo o randomizovanú, dvojito zaslepenú, placebom kontrolovanú štúdiu s 22 pacientmi. Výsledky ukázali zlepšenie suchej pokožky na tvári a tele a zvýšenie hydratácie pokožky. Kajimoto, O. et al. (2001).
