About Fisetin

Fisetin is a powerful flavonoid in fruits like apples, strawberries, and grapes. With its strong antioxidant properties, fisetin offers the body protection from free radicals and oxidative stress. High levels of oxidative stress damage our DNA, and can lead to the development of many neurological and metabolic diseases, as well as cancer. By protecting us from free radicals, fisetin reduces inflammation and cardiovascular risk and supports healthy aging, longevity, and brain health. Early research on fisetin shows its potential in anticancer therapy, as well as protection from chemotherapeutical damage. Fisetin is usually taken up in doses of 200-500 mg per day. Fisetin is considered safe, and so far, no significant side effects have been reported.

Benefits of Fisetin
  • Fisetin has antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties that can protect the body against oxidative damage and free radicals. 
  • Fisetin's protection against free oxygen radicals supports brain health and cognitive abilities in older age. It also has the ability to reduce cellular markers of aging. 
  • Fisetin shows a lot of potential in preclinical studies, in anticancer therapy and treating chemoresistant tumors, as well as protecting the organism from chemotherapeutic damage. 
Efficacy studies
  1. One study (NCT04313634) examined the effects of fisetin on frailty, inflammation, and aging in older adults. It was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving individuals aged 65-90. Participants took ~20 mg/kg/day of fisetin for three consecutive days, every 28 days, over 20 weeks. The results suggested that fisetin reduced markers of inflammation and cellular senescence, potentially improving overall health and reducing frailty in older adults. 
  2. A pilot study called the COVFIS-HOME study (NCT04771611) explored whether fisetin could reduce the severity of COVID-19 symptoms and prevent long-term complications. Participants received ~20mg/kg /day of oral fisetin for four days. The trial's results indicated some promise in using fisetin for these purposes, but larger studies are needed to confirm the findings.

There are currently no published clinical trials on fisetin and cancer, but there are several ongoing ones:

Take with a meal containing fats, preferably in the morning.

Supports optimal absorption when taken with food.

Avoid dairy and take 2–3 at a time some days apart rather than 1 daily.
