L-Лизинът е есенциална аминокиселина, открита в храни като яйца и млечни продукти, бобови растения, ядки и семена, както и месо и морски дарове. Научни изследвания показват, че лизинът подобрява костното здраве при възрастни хора, понижава нивата на кръвната захар, намалява симптомите на тревожност и лекува студени пъпки. Хората не могат да синтезират лизин, затова той трябва да се приема чрез храна или добавки. Няма официално препоръчителна дозировка, но изследванията предполагат дневна доза от 1 до 3 грама. Лизинът обикновено се счита за безопасен, но възможните странични ефекти включват стомашно-чревни проблеми, повишена абсорбция на калций, а в екстремни случаи – бъбречни проблеми.

Проучвания за ефективност
  1. Публикувана през 2023 г. обзорна статия обобщава десетилетия изследвания върху лизина за лечение на вируса на херпес симплекс (студена пъпка). Заключението е, че лизинът е безопасно натурално съединение, което ефективно лекува студени пъпки и намалява времето за зарастване и тежестта на симптомите. Точните дози за тази цел и механизмът на действие все още не са известни.
  2.  Обзорна статия от 2022 г. обобщава констатациите, че лизинът, наред с други аминокиселини като треонин и метионин, помага за предотвратяване на свързаната с възрастта загуба на костна маса.
  3. В проучване от 2017 г., 12 здрави доброволци получават интрагастрални инфузии (200 мл), съдържащи 5 или 10 г л-лизин или контролен разтвор в рамките на 2 минути при 3 различни случаи в произволен ред. Лизинът намалява нивата на кръвната захар и гликемичния отговор към перорална напитка със смесени макронутриенти.
  4. Едно проучване от 2004 г. и едно от 2007 г. установяват, че лизинът (2,64 г дневно в проучването от 2007 г., заедно с аргинин) значително помага за намаляване на тревожността.
